Bill Osuna

Bill OsunaBill Osuna died at the age of 72 on the afternoon of May 2, 2021, from cardiac complications compounded by diabetes, kidney failure, and other medical conditions. Thankfully, he died a peaceful death with palliative care provided by the Sutter Medical Facility at which he was treated on a rather regular basis.

Bill was born in San Francisco and spent the majority of his adolescent life in Montara, CA. After graduating from Half Moon Bay High School, he joined the US Army and was sent to serve a good bit of his tour in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the Army as a decorated Vietnam veteran.

Bill returned home and completed the proscribed courses to earn his Bachelor's degree from San Jose University. He would apply much of his learning to a 40-year career in the garment industry, with most of that time spent in employment of the Levi Corporation.

Bill had a tremendous love for people and enjoyed their company whether it be at parties, cultural events, or volunteer activities. He was an advocate of the arts and a champion of charities. He loved the arts and any kind of outings with friends, whether they be exhibitions at the de Young Museum, the opera, movies, car shows, or just meals with close friends.

Bill was also very involved in church activities as an active member of his beloved Most Holy Redeemer parish, its pastoral council, AIDS support, Centering Prayer, and the Cursillo movement within the church at large. Bill engaged in a program of study at the New Camaldoli Hermitage in Big Sur and was installed as one of their oblates dedicated to following the Rule of St. Benedict as a lay person in the world.

Over the years, Bill had suffered from a myriad of medical conditions and disabilities with great valor and patience. Near the end of life, various complications would take their toll on him, yet he never wavered from living each day the best his possibly could.

Project Open Hand is honored to have been a recipient of Bill’s generosity throughout his life and as part of his final affairs. Through his support, we continue to serve Meals with Love to those most in need throughout the Bay Area.
