David Mark Oliverio

David Mark Oliverio

David Mark Oliverio was born in San Jose, CA, to Josephine and Paul Oliverio. He graduated from Mitty High School where he played baseball and reportedly had a slick glove. David loved the Giants and all sports, and graduated from San Francisco State University where he studied sports broadcasting and called many baseball, basketball and football games for the Gators.

After transitioning into a career in sales and joining the San Francisco Chronicle, he met the love of his life, Coni Herndon, and they became partners for the next 15 years. David loved and absorbed all the Bay Area had to offer, from “The Escape from Alcatraz” triathlon to nature walks in the Outer Richmond with his beloved pooch Pepe Blue. Although a nonsmoker, David fought lung cancer for seven and a half years before passing in 2019, survived by Coni and much of his immediate family.

David was passionate that no one should go without food and began supporting Project Open Hand in 2007. David’s commitment to providing Meals with Love could be relied upon through multiple annual campaigns, answering the call for those needing Food as Medicine across the Bay Area.

With generosity and commitment extending beyond his life, David’s selflessness continued through an extraordinarily generous bequest to Project Open Hand. We are so touched by David’s enduring dedication to those in need and honored to continue our mission forward in his memory, as with so many others.
